Survivors Challenge in Ocean City

Contributed by Stan Piesla

After a very successful FUNdRaiser at the Big Chill, THE MAIN EVENT – The Cancer vs. Cardiac SURVIVORS Challenge was played at Northside Park in Ocean City on Friday morning, June 28th.

Since all these competitors are winners in life, the $2000 raised at the Big Chill event will be split evenly between the chosen charities related to cancer or cardiac. The decision of which charities is pending, while the team captains consider the options. In reality, close to $3000 was raised but that difference is due to the pay-out to the 50/50 Raffle winner.

A shout-out to all the Participants, the First State Pickleball Club for co-sponsoring the FUNdRaiser and especially the Coastal Communities Pickleball League volunteers who “put the icing on the cake” through their generosity of time and hard work. All of you made this Event very special – THANK YOU ALL !

WBOC Sports Director, Zach Parnes, was in Ocean City to cover the Survivors Challenge and devoted his entire sportscast that night to the event. Thanks, Zach, – You are a true friend to us Pickleballers and we appreciate your intersest in our sport!

Here are some videos. One is aerial video taken by our resident Drone Pilot, Art Fitch. He covered ( or should I say hovered over) one of the practice sessions held at Fairway Village that led up to the Main Event.

Another is a video production by the talented Bob Bauer, husband of Becky Kelly, one of the event participants. His is a creative blend of music and video!

And finally, Zach’s WBOC Friday evening sportscast.

Enjoy!
